Colosseo
You need to have some information on the history of this building. In the first place, we can say that ” The Colosseum ” was built at the request of the Emperor Vespasian. It is undoubtedly the largest Colosseum in the world, and is today regarded as one of the greatest architectural works of antiquity. The great emperor Vespasian is behind the creation of this place dedicated to various public entertainments such as gladiator fights.
The dimensions of the Colosseum – built from 72 to 82 AD – are enormous, it is a very impressive monument. In fact, it measures 527 meters in circumference and 57 meters in height. The Colosseum was intended to receive gladiator games and fights. These fights – practiced for 500 years – were banned in 404 by the Emperor Honorius. The Colosseum could accommodate 55,000 spectators. Today, the Colosseum is one of the Roman buildings where we can find the largest number of tourists who come from all over the world. It is in ruins but still shows the power of Rome in Antiquity today. We can also say that there are many French people who visit the city of Rome and in particular the neighborhood where the Colosseum is located.
Not far from the Colosseum, we can find another important building of Roman history: the Arch of Constantine . This Arch has, like the Colosseum, a great notoriety. There are many tourists who visit the Arch of Constantine. In summer it is very difficult to get close to this monument because there are too many people. Today, this arch is thought to have been created in 315 by the Senate and the Roman people. It measures more than 25 meters wide. It was created in honor of a battle that the Emperor Constantine won against his great enemy Maxentius. On this arch we can see large sculptures and statues representing well-known characters of ancient history such as, for example, Marcus Aurelius.
